Create a Rocking DJ Poster / Wallpaper Design

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to create a super cool musical wallpaper… but the design can also be used as a DJ disco poster design. This is one of the few tutorials which are fun to follow, easy to make yet great effect and high in commercial value.

Apologies for not making a tutorial last week, my laptop broke so… me without laptop is like a bird without wings. I got a laptop now so no more interruptions from now on. Promise.

Final Result

Ground Work

First of all, download the background and apply this gradient over that layer. Don’t’ forget to use Overlay blend mode.

After making the background, I added a skull image.
Notice: No skeletons were harmed in the making of this tutorial.

Now our target is to give our skull a high contrast, but it shouldn’t lose its color detail. For that I’m applying High Pass filter.  Go to Filter>Other>HighPass and set the following values. Then set layer’s opacity to the 30.

Skull Gives you Wings

Here I’m adding wings in our poster. Add the images and just transform them according to the needs. Transform shortcut key: CTRL+T.

Here I’m changing the tone of the wings. Go to Edit>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation and adjust according to the following values.

This is the final result of wings. 

Eye Contact

I selected Brush tool and made the strokes (you can see below) on a new layer. Once the eye area is colored red, change the layer style to Overlay.

Now we need to set contrast of the reddish eyes. Go to Image>Adjustment>Brightness/Contrast

Music Mix

Let’s add a few musical stock photos. Here, I’m placing a Music Knot On the skull. Then I changed its blend mode to overlay.

A headphone would look cool, right?

Giving it a Hip

I added a ribbon, and applied layer style of Color Overlay.

And how about a stylish hat with another skull on it? Cooool…

Here I’m setting Hue of the hat. I want to make it look reddish. Go to Edit>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation.

This is what we have made so far. 

Dangerous Musical Cross

Here I added an Audio Jack and transformed it.

Same thing again, but this time, red jack.

It’s on Fire

This is pretty cool effect we are making now. I’m adding a stock fire image into our poster.
I transformed the image and set it in accordance with the wings. Then I set the layer blend mode to screen and set opacity to 22.

I deleted the black area from fire image using eraser tool. Then I copied the final fire layer on the other side. Here’s the result.

Text

This is our last step, we add some text, and we’re done. You might wanna add your own name here, like “Waseem Rocks!”

In the end Go to Layer>New adjustment Layer>Gradient Map. Set these colors and change the layer blend mode to Overlay.
