Learn the 3D commands of Photoshop here. This tutorial shows you the most used 3D stuff designers work on while creating their graphics. And don’t forget, these commands are very easy to use and even a novice user can engage them easily.
Please don’t hate me while reading this post, because the same step is repeated again and again. But I promise you, when you’ll be following this tutorial, it’ll be fun.

Fist of all open the New document and type each letter of your favorite word in separate layer.

Repousse
Then go to 3-D>Repousse>Text Layer

A table will appear asking you for rasterizing the layer. Click on Yes. You might wanna “Don’t show again” so this table won’t bother you again.

Once this ‘Repousse Box’ appears, put the following values.

3D Rotation
Now our “d” should have a 3D effect. Its time now to give it a ‘revolution’. Select 3-D Object Rotate Tool and rotate it in whatever direction you want.

This is the tricky part now. You have to go to the Layers Panel and double click on the Extusion materials. Then a blank file will open. You have to apply the effects on this file which you want to apply on your letter, in my case I’m applying Gradient Overlay. Then save that file by striking CTRL+S, once you save it, you’ll return to original file.
These are the values of Gradient Overlay.

The Letter ‘E’
Now I’m adding the letter ‘e’. The fifth letter of the alphabet. It is also the most used letter in the English language. (I paid attention to my English teacher)

Go to 3-D>Repousse>Text Layer

Here I’m rotating the letter E.

This is the gradient applied on the letter E through Extrusion materials.

The Letter ‘S’
I don’t like this letter, so I won’t tell you anything about it.

Go to 3-D>Repousse>Text Layer

Rotating the Letter S

Gradients now.

The Letter ‘I’
We’re just gonna repeat the same steps again and again with different colors and different rotation angles. Besides these differences, its the same effect.

3-D>Repousse>Text Layer

Rotation

Gradient

The Letter ‘G’
Type it

Go to 3-D>Repousse>Text Layer

Rotate it

And how can we forget the gradient.

The Letter ‘N’

Go to 3-D>Repousse>Text Layer

Rotate it

Fill the gradient.

The Letter Z
We’re adding 3 ZZZ.

Go to 3-D>Repousse>Text Layer

Gradient

And again, the letter Z

Go to 3-D>Repousse>Text Layer

Gradient again.

I promise, this is the last Z.

3-D>Repousse>Text Layer

Gradient

Rotating the third Z.

Finally we’re done with our 3D. Now I added a background.

Splatter Effect
I used splatter brushes for making this effect.

Now I’m adding a few splatters on the text as well. It will give our text a groovy look.

Done

Wow, such a creative and interesting tutorial. Great having to know about typographic creations. Also the effects use in it is so brilliant. Thanks
Gracias!
You’re welcome
It is so interesting to see how much you can do even with out a 3Dsoftware in PSD
You’re right Saya, 3D was enhanced by a great deal in CS5. Let’s see what adobe got in the hat for CS6.
Nice clear Tut Waseem. Finished item looks great and I love the background texture you chose.
yes we were stuck at the background for a long time.
I must say you are always spot on where the I had faced the problem. I’m sure you’re skilled designer.
What caught my eye about it was its versatility. Depending upon an added texture it could look like an old canvas hanging off that metal bar making an effective dropsheet to some word art etc or made to look more metallic for a different appearance.
All I thought while selecting this background was: “this one would work”.
I think, that’s great 3D Typography. But, I use Adobe Photoshop CS3 for my work. Is it work for Photoshop CS3?
Can you help me to rate this web? This web is about graphic design. You can visit this http://onlinegraphicdesign.info
I hope, you can give me suggestion for thie web.
I gave your link to our Editor, he gave me following stats: 1) the site has no Google PageRank. 2) the site doesn’t even has Alexa Rank.
This means that your website is not at all credible.
And I’m sorry, CS3 doesn’t has all of these 3D features.
Hi… after I wrote the text and I went to 3d-Repousse … then it was not active choice … did you had such a problem?? thank you a lot and I liked you work
Hey great tutorial! I just need to ask you wich background you used? I love it!
Hello Felicia
the link for the background is: http://shadowh3.deviantart.com/art/Wall-Texture-73682375
Sorry for the late reply, I was away for my exams.
Hey its not working…. wen i go to 3d > and the repouse option dosent show me the options there …. it is in gray
well, I think that’s due to your machine. Your computer may not have a dedicated VGA.
Hi,
Would you tell me the System Configuration which will be batter for this Job.
a computer comprising 512 MB dedicated VGA card should be able to perform this perfectly.
