Sans serif fonts are required in both graphic designing and desktop publishing. These fonts look gorgeous regardless of point size and color. This is the biggest advantage of using sans serif fonts.
If you don’t know what does ‘sans serif’ mean, there’s a quick introduction. There are two types of fonts being used in publishing sectors, serif and sans serif.
Sans-serif based fonts have the same point size all over, while serif fonts’ size vary. For example, if you type “A” in Arial or Calibri font, it seems as if it was written using a routine marker, but if you type “A” in Times New Roman, it seems as if it was written with a calligraphic brush. Times New Roman styled fonts are called serif fonts.
If be a little technical, serifs are the small lines attached to the end of typographic strokes to make them look a little calligraphic. Here’s an image for example:

Serif based fonts are considered traditional so they are mostly used by journals and newspapers that have been around for decades.
The problem with serif fonts is that they don’t look as good when used in small point size. Usually, these fonts are used in combination with sans serif fonts. Sans serif font is applied to the content and serif font is applied to headlines. Many websites use this combination.
Many famous fonts, such as Droid and ParaType come in both varieties so their combo can be made easily.
