Beginner Level Photoshop Tutorial
Photoshop enables us to be god, we can make whatever we wish for and whatever we can imagine. Such a software would have loads of commands and features, people say that only advanced users and can make use of all of them and create mesmerizing results. Today I thought to challenge them, I have created a surreal photo manipulation using the very basic and simple commands which I believe even the beginners would know.
So if you thought creating a good photomanipulation takes too much time and only advanced photoshoppers can do that, think again!!

What We are Creating
Setting the Ground
I’m starting from adding the background.
Here I just adjusted the levels of the background image.
Now we added this frame.
A little bit of Drop Shadow will give this frame a realistic hanging look.
I added a scenery and it looks like a painting of the wall now. You know the stuff we are doing right now, pretty basic, isn’t it??
Creating the Effect
I selected the Girl’s image and removed the unnecessary parts using Lasso Tool, then add this layer under the layer of frame and above the scenery.
After the placing the girl’s image, I selected a part of her hair (I had to use the maximum level of Zoom Tool, you can select this tool by pressing Z). I cut-pasted this part into a new Layer. Now this new layer, containing her hair should be above the frame layer so the hair look like hanging out of the picture.
Here I’m enhancing the size of those hair, I think looked a little short earlier.
Adding the Spices
The picture was looking a little dull on the left side so I have placed a few colorful Hot Air Balloons. As you can see, they also seem to be coming out of the picture. We used our good old trick, we placed these balloons below the frame layer and above the scenery.
Now I’m adding the details, I grabbed an image of ladies sandles and placed them next to our girl. They have added a concept in the photo.
There was too much wall on the left side, so I added a coat-hanger.
Let’s Create a Shadow Now
Press CTRL+Click on the layer thumbnail in the Layers Palette, once the coat stand is selected with marquee, create a new empty layer, fill it with pure black color and change Layer Style to Overlay.
Here I’m transforming (T) the layer we just made, you can see the perfect shadow in the background.
The girl has her hair open, feeling the wind, this means she had put her hat its place.
I added a crow on top of the stand… what?? this is a surreal photo manipulation, it doesn’t have to make sense!!
The floor pattern has been pushing me to add something chessy and in the photo, so here it is.
Let’s create a shadow, we’ll use the same method we just leaned a few steps back. You can change the Opacity values to find your best result.
To complete yin yang, here’s white King.
Here is the Conceptual Photo-Manipulation, full and final.
